Abstract:
Reports examination by optical and scanning electron microscopy, atomic absorption spectrophotometry, electron microprobe analysis, and X-ray diffraction of the late 17th century brown and white stonewares produced by John Dwight. Composition of the stoneware bodies matches the recipes in Dwight's records. Dwight failed to reproduce the glazes of Chinese porcelain by not using a lime-alkali slip glaze.
