[TM 3255]. A short account is given of a small excavation at an Augustinian nunnery to which a chantry college of chaplains was added late in the 14th century. The standing remains on the site are briefly described. The area of the excavation was probably within or near the S aisle of the church choir. Six burials were found in situ and a high-quality Purbeck marble tomb of late 14th century is discussed. Other finds were stone mouldings, bricks, floor tiles and window glass. Pottery of late 14th century and late 16th/early 17th century is described and illustrated. The ownership of a leaden bulla of Clement VI is explored. L A S B. See also 73/1998. |
