Abstract:
NS 067685. Reports the excavation of a multi-phase cairn whose builders had used the living rock for part of thc structure. Pollen analysis indicated an area of residual woodland in a tract otherwise under cultivation when the cairn was first built. Sherds from three Neo vessels (two being shouldered bowls of Irish appearance) were in the chamber, and artefacts of flint together with carefully placed quartz pebbles also belong to this phase. A secondary cairn was added and had an intrusive BA cist set into it, possibly associated with a tanged quartz arrowhead.
