NN 990191 etc. At least ten "signal stations" are set along the line of a Roman road from Strageath fort towards Perth. Small excavations at Gask House, Parkneuk and Roundlaw suggested that they took the form of wooden towers about 3m square enclosed by a bank and ditch. Each had one entrancecauseway facing on to the Roman road, and each is visible to the two adjacent stations. A Flavian mortarium rim from Gask House provides the only dating evidence so far. Results of excavations c 1900 are summarised. |
