Although the Institute has taught field archaeology since its inception under Wheeler, only in 1974, when the Institute took over responsibility for publicly-funded archaeology in Sussex, did it become possible to provide a coherent training in all aspects of field archaeology. From 1982 more advanced training includes an MA course, and tropical and highland zone work is now included. A cultural resource management course is needed; but future funding remains uncertain. |
