Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Short report on continued investigation work at Middleton Stoney Castle in Oxfordshire, including the completion of a section across the bailey ditch and the excavation of a Roman-period building within the eastern enclosure. The latter was found to represent a 2nd-century AD Romano-British farmstead, divided lengthways between animal and occupation areas. The stone footings had survived largely intact within a few inches of the ground surface, despite the subsequent construction of the castle motte close by. The southern end of the building appeared to have been robbed away during the Middle Ages. LD |
