Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Short interim report on the findings to date at Devil's Quoits, a Neolithic henge monument near Stanton Harcourt in Oxfordshire. Two-thirds of the site have been made available for excavation in advance of gravel extraction, with the remaining third inaccessible beneath a runway. The work shows that the bank was levelled when the airfield was constructed in 1940, but that deposits dating from the modern period to the Iron Age survive in the ditch. No material predating the Iron Age has yet been identified, although there are considerable quantities of burnt material in the ditch. The interior features within the monument are as yet unexcavated. LD |
