Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
An excavation at the Old Castle Inn, Dorchester-on-Thames, Oxfordshire lay across the expected line of the eastern defences of the Roman town, but no evidence of these was found. However, some traces of 1st century military activity were recorded and from probably the 2nd century onwards the eastern part of the site was taken up by a street, perhaps behind the town rampart, and by a sequence of timber houses abutting it. Evidence of Saxon grubenhauser post-dating the Roman occupation was also present. LD |
