Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Booklet giving an account of the Dunham Massey Estate near Altrincham, which today covers over 3000 acres and includes 17 working farms, 111 cottages, an early-18th century hall and a deer park. Dunham is thought to have formed the core of a large Anglo-Saxon estate; a wealth of documentary material has allowed its evolution from the 14th century onwards to be deduced. The estate was acquired by the National Trust in 1976, and since then work has included a detailed historic landscape survey, documentary research, archaeological work and building surveys. Findings from this work are put in context as the historical development of the estate and its buildings is described, including a summary of prehistoric and Roman activity in the area. LD |
