Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
An account of a number of projects undertaken from the early 1990s onwards. At Worsley the remains of a lime kiln have been investigated, and a cultural heritage assessment has been undertaken of the Worsley Delph area. This is where the Bridgewater Canal entered and exited the mine, and the basin and surrounding area contain numerous features and structures of archaeological interest. At Castlefield investigations looked at a variety of canal-related features and structures, including warehouses, a toll house, swing bridge, boat house, weir and well, and lock-keepers' cottages. The value of such work in feeding into research frameworks and ultimately into national planning policy is underscored. LD |
