Abstract:		 TG 3136. A beach-find of 1845, previously somewhat neglected, may be apprentice work from the Sutton Hoo workshop. It consists of a late 6th century solidus mounted within a cloisonné border of foil-backed garnets and suspended by an elaborately decorated loop. It contains plugged cloisons (?cruder versions of the Sutton Hoo lidded ones) and its border is not a wreath but a double-headed interlaced creature of S Swedish origin, related to the purse-lid and shoulder-clasp animals of Sutton Hoo. A date of AD 620-30 fits the pendant as a whole. Closer examination of two other AS pendants reveals further zoomorphic ornament: a double-headed creature on the Forsbrook (Staffordshire) pendant and a boar's head on the Womersley (Yorkshire) example.
