Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Including review-article of 'The Anglo-Saxon cemeteries of Caistor-by-Norwich and Markshall, Norfolk.' Though Myres has correctly identified Caistor, by its abnormally high proportion of very early burials, as one of the few undoubted sites of the incoming English, he has not proved that it predates the 420s. Scrutiny of his Continental comparanda is hindered by lack of illustrations, and some "parallels" are illusory or undatable, and in general he pays little regard to the durability of Plettke's chronology. Moreover, unless pots, military equipment and cemeteries are all found in direct association they cannot legitimately be used as assemblages. | ||
