Abstract:
Large scale excavations have revealed extensive remains of the Franciscan friary. This study concentrates on the complex structural sequence of the chancel, and buildings around part of the Greater and Lesser Cloister, from a foundation about 1250, until after the Dissolution. The architectural freestone is discussed by A J Parkinson (183--4), the metal working features by Paul Courtney (184--6) and the iron nails by Dee Brennan (186--7).
