Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
On a new research programme offering exposure of a monastery in the land of the Picts. It is argued that the settlement was founded in the sixth century and that by the eighth century it had developed into an important political and industrial centre. Signs of the monastery's former prominence survive in workshops producing liturgical objects, and in the art of the Tarbat cross-slabs at several locations. The monastic institution seems to have been expunged by the eleventh century, probably in the context of political upheavals. | |||||
