Article on the discovery and excavation of two Anglo-Saxon inhumation burials at a site behind the Dover Castle public house on the northern side of Deptford Broadway. One burial was furnished with grave goods including a decorated gilt-bronze pendant and fittings from a small wooden casket, and could be dated to the seventh century. The author discusses the context of Anglo-Saxon Deptford, and of preceding settlement relating to the Roman period. | |||||||||||||
