Abstract:		 Report on a limited excavation across the line of Hadrian's Wall at Hare Hill, in an area where no Roman masonry was visible, with the aim of finding and examining surviving Roman work and establishing the Roman ground level. The investigation was in carried out in association with a scheme to consolidate and display a 12m stretch of the wall, and included clearance and recording of the remainder of the 12m length. The Hadrianic turf wall and stone wall were uncovered, along with evidence of medieval robbing and boundary wall construction. The adjoining stretches of wall are discussed in relation to documentary sources and to evidence of medieval and post-medieval settlement. Includes
