Abstract:		 Article on the development of Millom town, which was planned and constructed from 1866 to house workers and their families employed by the two iron ore companies based there. The paper argues that the physical alignment of the town laid down in 1866, and its realignment from 1875, reflects a struggle for economic and political power and dominance as played out between the two companies.
