Abstract:
Evaluation trenches were excavated in advance of development in Kendal in 2007. Evidence for former tanning pits was found in the northern part of the site and an additional area was excavated, revealing further features associated with an 18th century and later tannery. A significant quantity of medieval and post-medieval pottery was recovered. The article describes the historical background to the site, summarises the results of the fieldwork and describes the pottery and animal bone assemblages. Au/LD
