Details late medieval wall and ceiling paintings from the county, using the late-fifteenth- to early-sixteenth-century ceiling at Prior's Room in Carlisle Cathedral precinct as a benchmark for other, more fragmentary, works. Sites include Archbishop Grindal's birthplace (see 2000/853). Oriental, Classical and Christian influences can be seen in the various motifs. | |||||
