Three roof-fittings from a street pipe-trench introduce features new to E Anglia. A louver with horn finials is particularly rare. A knob finial, broken from a ridge-tile, adds a new shape to the known range. The third piece is a ridge-tile crest with three spikes. Analogies to the spiked pieces are found in Midlands and NE Wales, and to the horned piece in, eg, London and Cambridge. The three pieces probably came from one local pottery in late 13th cent. A wheel-thrown conical water pipe from the same site introduces notes on medieval water pipes of lead and pottery, especially those from Marwell Manor (Owslebury, Hants) and Glenluce Abbey, Wigtownshire. | ||||||
