Abstract:		 Description of the temporary village provided for navvies working on the construction of the dams for the Derwent and Howden dams between 1901 and 1916. The settlement also provided accommodation for the navvies' families, for shopkeepers and for officials. The paper describes the historical and documentary evidence relating to the settlement, the living conditions that would have been found in the village, and the surviving physical remains.
