NT 975008. Excavation of the chapel site revealed two pits of the BA cemetery known from old records to have yielded pottery. Pit A contained a collared urn and was 14C-dated to 13th century bc; an inhumation could also belong to this period. The stone chapel, c 19m x 8m overall (nave and chancel) appears to date from 12th century, to have been destroyed in 14th, restored and used until ?15th century, though burials continued intermittently. Several graveslabs and the 12th-century font are described, as are the BA pottery (including old finds), medieval pottery, jet bead, window glass, metalwork and skeleton. | ||
