Conflation of evidence from excavations old and new shows that a substantial courtyard house of Mediterranean type was planned, but built in two stages. It had heated accommodation, a plunge bath and latrine but no bath suite. The general layout was retained in the Severan rebuild, and the expected subdivision of the building during the attested occupation by Germanic troops is not seen in the archaeological record.
