Three main structural phases of the wall were identified: presumed Hadrianic, end of 2nd century, and end of 3rd; and three construction levels in waterlogged stratified deposits contained well preserved bone, wood, and leather. These overlay a cobbled roadway to the N gate. An earthen defensive bank (late 4th/early 5th century) was constructed over the collapsed wall.
