Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
The paper comments on a recent attempt to reconcile evidence for breaks in the construction of Hadrian's Wall and for warfare in Britain during the reign of Hadrian. The model deployed evidence for a break in the construction of the stone fort at Birdoswald. It is argued that the complex sequence of Birdoswald shows that the primary fort was constructed of timber, and that this would be the fort under construction when the break observed elsewhere took place; in which case another explanation is required for the break in stone fort construction. | ||
