Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
William Williams, born in Flintshire and active between 1718 and 1736 , is on present evidence the earliest Welsh professional land surveyor known by name. Early in his career he was engaged in the surveying of smaller estates in north Wales and also in the preparation of a new map of the counties of Flintshire and Denbighshire for subscribers whose coats of arms were depicted around its border. Searching for work, he moved to Oxford between 1724–33 and became involved with the production of the Oxford University Almanack and Oxonia Depicta. In the years before his death in 1738 he returned to work in north Wales and the borderland counties and was commissioned to survey of a number of larger estates. |
