Abstract:		 Part of a cross-dyke on the South Downs near Upper Beeding was excavated in advance of its destruction by quarrying. The dyke consisted of a continuous ditch, the material from which had been thrown up to form a parallel but irregular bank. The construction of the dyke is tentatively ascribed to the early Iron Age.
