Abstract:		 This survey of the medieval churches of the Cuckmere valley (Fig .1) was undertaken as part of the Cuckmere Valley Project initiated by Peter Drewett of the Institute of Archaeology, University of London, in 1982. The present article records part of work in progress by the authors on the development of medieval settlement in this area of East Sussex, and illustrates the basic information from which the development of the parish churches in the region can be deduced .
