Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
The cross slab grave cover is the most ubiquitous form of medieval memorial to survive. Examples can be found at the majority of churches and monastic sites of the period throughout Northern England, although they become less common further south. In 2000–2003, the writer published a corpus of a total of 731 cross slabs in Northumberland. Since then he has continued to work in the field of church archaeology, and a number of other slabs have been brought to his attention, so it seems appropriate to follow the format of the earlier articles and complete the record – to date. A corpus of previously unrecorded slabs and slab fragments is followed by appendices, dealing with other lapidary material. | ||||
