Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
From medieval to modern times St Nicholas’s Church (Cathedral since 1882) was the venue for religious and civic ceremonies, and until the nineteenth century it was a burial place for parishioners, particularly the wealthiest inhabitants. There are a significant number of eighteenth and nineteenth-century memorials and three of these, to members of the Ridley family, are discussed in this article to investigate the local, national and international identities of Newcastle’s wealthiest inhabitants in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. | ||||||
