Abstract:
Archaeological investigations in the village of Cliburn have revealed evidence for Medieval land division and Post-medieval activity, including the remains of a possible late 17th century workshop and the foundations of a stone barn or byre. The following provides a summary of the Medieval and Post-medieval features revealed by the investigations with brief details of the associated finds and environmental evidence. The archaeological evidence suggests that the site may have originally comprised one or more tofts on the east side of the main street.
