Abstract:
Excavations by the Cambridge Archaeological Unit at Manor Road, Witchford have provided archaeological evidence of a small Late Iron Age rural settlement, abandoned by the 1st century AD. It has also provided the first evidence of Witchford’s Late Anglo-Saxon origins, a peripheral area of activity that included a watering hole with associated trackway, pitting and evidence of metalworking. In addition excavations revealed part of post-medieval Witchford’s ridge and furrow cultivation system.
