Abstract:
Monitoring and recording at 6–18 King Street during construction of new buildings for Christ’s College, identified c. 11th-century gravel extraction pits containing Thetford, St Neots and Stamford ware pottery. The site adds to the picture of late Saxon–early medieval land use on this eastern fringe of the developing town at Cambridge, outside the line of the 12th-century King’s Ditch. Pits and building remains dating from the 16th century onwards were also recorded.
