Abstract: |
Chemical analysis has been combined with typological and archaeological information to investigate the composition and production of early medieval glass from north west Europe. Over five hundred samples, analysed by inductively coupled plasma spectrometry, are included from sites in England, particularly Southampton and Winchester, and continental Europe. The samples analysed, which included both vessel and window glass, mostly date from the seventh to eleventh centuries AD, although some late Roman glass was also examined for comparison. |
