Abstract:
Largely a review of the archaeological evidence for medieval Scotland. The first three chapters deal with religious sites, including abbeys, churches and cathedrals. There are two chapters on towns and town life and further chapters on earthwork castles, stone castles in their archaeological context, and rural settlement. A short afterword considers the future of medieval archaeology in Scotland, and there is a glossary and a list of relevant sites and museums.
