Abstract: |
The results of an aerial survey of coal mines commissioned by the RCHME and carried out in 1992. The history of coal mining technology is summarised by Shane Gould (12--16) in `The coal industry: a brief historical survey of mining technology'. There is a gazetteer of coalfields by Ian M Ayris (17--133). Each entry consists of a number, colliery name, national grid reference, and an aerial photograph with a brief description of what it shows. One index is of the gazetteer in number order, and a second index is of colliery names. There is a glossary of mining terms. |
