Abstract: |
A revised and abridged edition of Roman Bath discovered, first published in 1971 by Routledge & Kegan Paul, with a second revised edition 1984 (see 84/1485). The original three chapters dealing with antiquarian interest and discovery have been conflated and reduced to a single chapter. The book now contains chapters on the setting of Roman Bath, its discovery, the temple and its precinct, and the bathing establishment. A further chapter discusses other buildings and whether Bath functioned as a spa or a town. Another chapter is on the people of Roman Bath, and the final chapter discusses the end of the town. The book ends with a glossary of terms (123), places to visit (124), and further reading (125). |
