Abstract:
A guidebook describing the castle near Aberdeen that was the ancient seat of the Gordons. The original late twelfth-century castle was known as the `Peel of Strathbogie', and the first stone tower was possibly built in the early fifteenth century. During the Reformation the castle was effectively the headquarters of the Roman Church. The castle experienced successive damage and rebuilding and became a stone quarry from the mid seventeenth century.
