Abstract:
A detailed examination of some illustrations of the Merioneth group of megalithic tombs which appeared in the second (posthumous) edition of Itinerarium curiosum (1776). Stukeley never visited Wales, and he probably copied original drawings by Edward Lhuyd (1709). These drawings were not used in the first edition and it is not known who took them in for the second. The original descriptions of the monuments tally remarkably well with twentieth-century surveys. Appended are descriptions for five sites, with commentary.
