Abstract:
A handbook designed for the reader with a general rather than a specialised knowledge of physics and chemistry begins by treating locating methods (magnetometer, etc); methods of age determination (radioactive and non-radioactive) and the implications for archaeology of chronologies drawn up by these methods. Physical examination of artefactual and biological material is then considered: microscopy, radiography; techniques such as neutron activation analysis; and applications of these.
