Abstract: |
(The Making of the English Landscape series.) Staffordshire is by no means all industrial landscape, though the development of that is treated in some detail. Its Pennine moorlands, Cannock Chase heathlands and fertile valleys of the Trent system form a highly varied landscape whose prehistory is only just emerging, though large numbers of EIA-RB farmsteads are now apparent from air photographs. Only at the Conquest does a reasonably coherent settlement picture show itsel£ The county is particularly rich in parks, park architecture, 18th century buildings, and canals, the latter still an impressive feature of the landscape. |
