Abstract: |
Brings together Coventry's documentary and archaeological evidence for the first time, and defines fifteen historical problems which need answers. It is hard to support Davis' argument for a town as early as 11th century; the earliest stratified archaeological evidence is of 13th century, although the castle was built between 1088 and 1147. Excavations since 1960 have raised new questions, and there are sixty-seven listed buildings in the central area. |
