Abstract: |
The Tenth Walter Neurath Memorial Lecture is an illustrated outline survey of archaeological drawing from the 16th century to Wheeler in our own day. Forty-two reproductions of drawings are used to illustrate the point made by Gombrich that artists worked to the standard of accuracy required by the times they lived in. Further, the degree of understanding of an artefact or monument strongly influenced an artist's depiction of it. |
