Illustrated gazetteer and descriptive text on the prehistoric to medieval archaeology of the triangular territory between Hartlepool, Darlington and Whitby. Important sites and areas include the barrows of the Cleveland Hills, the Eston Nab hillfort and the Iron Age settlements of Percy Rigg and Great Ayton Moor, the Roman fortlets of Huntcliff and Goldsborough, the Hartlepool monastery and the collections of Anglo-Viking sculpture at Sockburn and Kirklevington, and numerous castles, deserted villages etc of the medieval period. |
