Abstract: |
The first general reassessment since 1906 looks at all the incentives to valour in the Roman army: what they were like, how won, who was eligible, and how worn. The nature of the evidence and problems of interpretation are considered before treating the decorations themselves, the class divisions (senators, equestrians etc), the implications for promotion etc. Recipients are listed in an appendix. |
