Abstract: |
Inaugural lecture, subtitled 'King Arthur and his random number table', considers how some of the concepts of the new archaeology could be applied, in theory and in practice, to the medieval period. Promising results have already been obtained in the fields of trade, urban development, and state formation; in sampling theory; and in systems theory as applied to sites like Cadbury-Congresbury and Wharram Percy. Finally the fruits of this work must be intelligibly communicated to the public. |
