Abstract: |
'The European palaeolithic can no longer be studied for its supposed intrinsic qualities alone', but must be examined in a world-wide and behavioural framework. A new research design takes into account energy needs, resource strategies, divisions of the artefactual record at 128kyr, 35kyr and 20kyr, 'spatial signatures' (eg patterns of discard behaviour), demography, and cracking the style code. Three models are put forward to illustrate the intensification of a long term evolutionary strategy. |
