The monograph provides a general review of the island, focusing on four aspects: palaeoenvironmental and palaeoecological studies (sealevel, vegetational history, climate, soils); history of earlier archaeological work, goals and new approaches of present work; major archaeological results at the five Mesolithic sites (Caisteal nan Gillean I and II, Priory Midden, Cnoc Sligeach, and Cnoc Coig); important assemblages of animal bones and human remains. Further volumes are planned on other aspects. |
