Abstract: |
Short colour brochure for the general public. The fort near Dalkeith (Lothian) was discovered from the air in 1979 and excavated in advance of industrial development. It was 1.26ha internally and the entire plan was recovered. The barracks are of cavalry type but no stables were found, either within the fort or during (limited) exploration of the annexe. Occupation was densely packed, and there were unusual features in the workshop. Defence was assured by up to four ditches and towers around the perimeter of the fort. The bath house has been seen from the air. Daily life is described and the Roman occupation of Scotland outlined. |
