Abstract: |
An excavation was carried out, following three evaluation phases at a development site. Artefacts recovered included mesolithic and bronze age flints, and bronze age, Roman and early medieval pottery. Late prehistoric ditches and a Roman cremation were excavated. Early medieval features included eight sunken-featured-buildings, a pit and a penannular ditch. Post-medieval drains, land reclamation, outbuildings, bedding trenches and pits were also recorded. It was concluded that the early medieval settlement was of local and regional importance. [AIP] |
